The Governor just announced new restrictions that take effect on November 16, 2020, how will that affect basketball?
Those restrictions will only change the number of spectators if and when we are allowed to have guests in the gym. Spectators is a fluid topic and the league will communicate more as we receive information. The new restrictions specifically do not apply to schools, churches, or sports and how they have been instructed to proceed.

Will there be practices?
Due to Covid-19 our winter season has been changed to a game only format. We will not be assigning practices but teams are free to hold practices independently.

When will the season begin and how long will it last?
Our goal is to get all teams a total of ten games for the season. This includes the two tournament games at the end of the season. All teams will participate in the tournament. We plan to begin games the week of January 3rd, 2021. Our target end date is February 28th. However, the season could extend up to two weeks depending on weather conditions and any other factors that may set back the normal schedule.

Are parents allowed in the gym?
There are still a lot of unknown answers at this time. We are working through the logistics but all families should prepare to start the season with players and coaches only. Our plan is to utilize a virtual platform for spectators to enjoy the games. This is something we are working to finalize over the next month. It should be understood that some gyms may allow for parents and others not, it will be dependent on gym size and space adequate enough to allow for social distancing. We will receive further communication and instructions on this in the next month.

Do players and coaches have to wear masks?
Players who are sitting on the bench and are not socially distant are required to wear a mask. Coaches are expected to wear a mask if they are not able to remain six feet from all players at all times. If a player is coming off the court the player should get water and social distance to catch their breath. If they choose to sit on the bench and social distancing is not possible they must wear a mask.

What should families expect when they arrive at the games?
Upon entrance to the gym players and coaches must have their temperature checks, use hand sanitizer, and wipe down any basketballs brought into the gym for warm up. Coaches are expected to meet their teams outside the gym and ensure that the COVID protocols are adhered to.

How many coaches are allowed per team? What about the scorekeeper?
Each team is allowed one coach. If a team has an assistant coach he should be listed with the league and can be used in the coaches absence. The home team will be allowed to have one person enter the gym to keep the score on the clock. The away team will be allowed to have one person enter the gym to keep the scorebook. These rules are subject to change depending on the current COVID- 19 restrictions.

What happens when I arrive at the gym and a game is still going on?
All players and coaches will wait outside or in their cars until the gym monitor signals that you are allowed to enter the gym. Teams in the gym must completely exit and the gym must be sanitized prior to the next group entering the gym. Do not attempt to go inside early. Games will be spaced out so that families are not waiting for an extended period of time.

What gyms will be used for games?
There are many unanswered questions at this time. We are working closely with Parks and Recreation in Chesterfield and Henrico counties, along with other private gyms to finalize the location of games. Teams are expected to be flexible and we appreciate your patience as we work to finalize the season during this unprecedented time. More information will be provided by the middle of December.

What days will games be played on?
Teams are expected to be able to play during the week and/or on the weekend. All teams will have one game a week but teams could be scheduled for two games in a given week depending on the number of teams per division, scheduling adjustments, etc.

Will scheduling conflicts be honored?
Coaches will receive an email from the league regarding a variety of tasks and deadlines to meet. In this email there will be a date to receive conflict requests. All requests are not guaranteed to be honored but will be considered. It is important to discuss any conflicts with your coach in advance so they are prepared when this request is made.

How to ensure my team or player gets a spot?
Space is limited. We will confirm teams on a first come first serve basis. Teams or individual players must be registered online and paid online or in person during office hours, TBD. Teams and individual players who are not paid by the registration deadline will be moved to the bottom of list and will not be assigned until payment is received provided there is space available. No exceptions. Teams will need to have all players registered and the team payment made prior to being confirmed.

How many players are on a team?
Teams should have no more than ten players per team. If your team would like to have more than ten players you will need to email the league, bonairbasketball@gmail.com for an exception to this rule.

What is a free agent? How will I know what team I am on?
Free agents are players who would like to play but do not have an existing team. These players will be added to an existing team or a team will be created for these players. To view your team assignment you will log in, click on myBA* and scroll down to view your registration. On the registration the team number will "N/A" until assigned to a team. You should expect to receive an email from your coach after the coaches meeting.
* The team assignment link will be enabled by 11/23.

How can I see who has registered to be on my team? What do players need to be assigned to my team?
Coaches will be assigned a team code to share with families to link registrations to team rosters. When your team code is available, a link will appear to the right of your registration on your MyBA page.
* The ability to enter team numbers will be enabled by 11/23.

Can we play with our friends? How do we get them on the same team?
Absolutely! As long as you and your friend are in the same division we will get you on the same team. In order to ensure this happens both players should register and then one parent can send an email to bonairbasketball@gmail.com, in the email be sure to include the other parent, specify which division and both players names. This must be completed by the registration closing deadline. In the subject line please add player request.

What do coaches need to do to ensure they are ready to go?
There are a number of items that coaches will have to complete. Coaches will receive an email so it's important that coaches register as a coach and link it to their team registration. To get started all coaches must have an active background check with the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation. There is no exception. If you plan to have an assistant coach, either in emergency circumstances it is important that they complete the background check process as well. This takes some time to complete and to receive your card. For more information please click on this link, https://www.chesterfield.gov/1436/Coaches-Background-Check

What do I do if Iost my card?
Please call Parks and Recreation, 804-748-1623 to request an additional card. I had a background check completed by another organization or employer do I need to have another one completed?
Yes, you do. All coaches must go through the process at the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation. There is NO exception to this rule.

What if I get ill or a family member gets ill, what do I need to do?
If you are ill please stay home. If a member of your family is ill, please ask them to stay home. If either the player or a person living in the home is confirmed to have COVID-19 we ask that the league is notified via email within 24 hours of confirmation. Emails should be sent to bonairbasketball@gmail.com. In the subject line, Urgent COVID exposure. It is also important that if the player attends a party etc. or has any known exposure that the league is notified of the situation. This email should provide as much detail as possible regarding symptoms and any pertinent contact tracing details.

A big NO. During Covid-19 times, there is no sharing of any kind. This includes jerseys, shorts, water bottles, towels etc. All players must attend games with their personal items labeled.

I’m trying to set up a team and my login is not working. What do I need to do?
